Since the New Year is here, like a lot of people I have been thinking a little bit about what is ahead and trying to figure out my own resolutions.I have also thought about some things that Alex and I have to look forward to in the future. As I look back on the past 3 years that Alex and I have been married and the different experiences we have had together and the different places we have lived, each place has brought different friends and also has brought us different challenges as a couple that has helped us grow closer together and helped us get to know each other better. A few nights ago I was reading in the January 2010 Ensign. Its been awhile since I have read the Ensign, but one of my New Years Resolutions is to read my scriptures or a story from the Ensign each night before bed. I read a talk by Jeffery R. Holland called "The Best Is Yet To Be" and it really touched me and had some things in it that I really needed to hear. I will share a little bit of it.
"Some of you may wonder; Is there any future for me? What does a new year or new semester, a new major or new romance, a new job or a new home hold for me? Will I be safe? will life be sound? Can I trust in the Lord and in the future? Or would it be better to look back , to go back, to stay in the past?"
I call out, Faith is the future. Faith builds on the past but never longs to stay there. Faith trusts that God has great things in store for each of us and that Christ truly is the high priest of good things to come.
Keep your eyes on dreams, however distant and far away. Live to see the miracles of repentance and forgiveness, of trust and divine love that will transform your life today, tomorrow, and forever, That is a New Year's resolution I ask you to keep."
He talked about forgiving yourself and others and forgetting things of the past. It touched me because I think that sometimes we remember to forgive others but forget to forgive ourselves for things that we have done or mistakes we have made and some things are hard to forget. I felt enlightened to forget things of the past and to move forward and do the best I can today and in the future. It helped me resolve to start the new year fresh and to think of the future as "the best is yet to be". I also thought about different goals and dreams that I have for myself and sometimes they do seem so unattainable. But in his talk he encourages us to keep them in sight even though they do seem far away or out of reach. I know that if we all continue to have faith in ourselves and in the lord we can improve and reach the goals that we have set for a new year and for the future! I hope that 2010 is great for all of you and you can remember that "The Best Is Yet To Be!"
